Flip Clock

A clock whose number cards flip over like a retro split-flap display. Go full screen to turn your laptop or tablet into a big desk clock.

Features

  • A classic split-flap look: the hour, minute and second cards flip down as the time changes
  • Full screen fills the whole display and sizes the clock to fit, in portrait or landscape
  • Keeps the screen awake while in full screen (in browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API)
  • 12-hour (AM/PM) or 24-hour format, with optional seconds and date
  • Four card colors: black, white, navy and retro brown. The flip animation can be turned off
  • Settings are saved on this device. No sign-up or install, and it works offline

Use cases

Turn a spare tablet or laptop into a desk clock

Go full screen and stand it on a desk or shelf for a big, easy-to-read clock.

Classroom, meeting room or shop displays

Show it on a TV or projector so people can read the time from across the room.

A clock beside your work

Make the window small and the cards resize to fit its width.

Stream and video backdrops

The flipping digits and four colors make a clock you can simply place on screen.

Privacy

The time comes from this device's clock. Nothing is fetched from or sent to the internet. Only your display settings (12/24-hour, seconds, date, animation, color) are saved, in this browser on this device.

FAQ

What is a flip clock?

A flip clock shows the time on number cards that flip down when the time changes, like the split-flap boards once used at train stations and airports. This page recreates that motion on screen.

My screen still goes dark in full screen

In full screen the page asks the browser to keep the screen on using the Screen Wake Lock API. It may not work in browsers without support, in power-saving mode or when the battery is low. In that case, lengthen the screen timeout in your device settings.

Full screen doesn't work on my iPhone

Safari on iPhone does not let a page put part of itself in full screen, so the clock fills the browser window instead. Turn the phone sideways for a bigger clock. On iPad, Android and computers it fills the whole screen.

The time seems to be off

The clock shows this device's time. If the device clock is wrong, so is the display. Turn on “Set date and time automatically” in your device settings.

The flipping motion is distracting

Turn off “Flip animation” in the display settings and the digits will change without moving. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animation starts turned off.
