FAQ

Can it lock my phone in landscape?

Pressing Show goes fullscreen, and on devices that allow web pages to lock the orientation (mainly Chrome on Android) it locks to landscape. On devices that don't, such as Safari on iPhone, turn off rotation lock and hold your phone sideways. It still works in portrait, just with smaller text.

Can I send my message to someone else?

Press "Copy share link" to copy a link containing your message plus colors, speed and other settings. When someone opens it, the banner starts scrolling right away. Messages can be up to 200 characters (fewer with emoji such as flags and families, which take the space of several characters each), and links longer than 2,000 characters are neither created nor loaded.

Will the screen dim or turn off while it's showing?

In supported browsers (recent Chrome, Edge and Safari) the screen is kept awake while the banner is showing (Screen Wake Lock). Elsewhere, your device's auto-lock setting applies.

Can it show emoji, Japanese or Chinese?

Yes. It draws with the fonts on your device, so anything your device can display will scroll. Emoji keep their own colors, even in LED dot style.

What if blinking or motion bothers me?

Blinking is off by default. If your device's "reduce motion" setting is on, the text never blinks and the banner opens held in the center (press Scroll to make it move).

Is my message sent anywhere?

No. Your message and settings are stored only in this browser. Even in a share link, the message sits after the #, which is never sent to the server when the link is opened.

Your message and settings are stored only in this browser (localStorage) and never sent to a server. A share link contains your message and settings, but the part after the # in a link is never sent to the server, even when the page is opened. No URL shortener is used.
