Internet Speed Test

Measure your download and upload speed and how fast your connection responds (ping). Press “Start test” to begin.

Features

  • Measures download and upload speed in Mbps
  • Measures ping and jitter in milliseconds
  • Shows the test server (Cloudflare location) and adapts the amount of data to your connection speed
  • Keeps up to 20 results on this device so you can compare times and places
  • Runs only when you press the button, and can be stopped at any time

Use cases

When video or calls keep cutting out

Download, upload and ping give you a hint whether your connection is the cause.

Finding the best spot for Wi-Fi

Test in each room and compare the history to find weak spots.

Seeing how speed changes over the day

Test in the morning, afternoon and evening to find the busy hours.

When online games feel laggy

High ping or jitter makes controls feel delayed or choppy.

Privacy

The test only exchanges meaningless random data with this site (tools.omikuji.dev, running on Cloudflare). The data is not stored and your results are not sent to the server. To limit how often the test can run from one IP address, the server uses your IP address for a short time (about one minute). Your result history stays in this browser on this device.

FAQ

Why is it slower than my plan's speed?

A plan speed such as “up to 1 Gbps” is a theoretical maximum. Real speed drops with the Wi-Fi standard and signal, your router and device, and network congestion. This test also measures the speed to the Cloudflare location you are connected to, so other speed tests that use different servers may show different numbers.

What are ping and jitter?

Ping is the time (in milliseconds) between sending a small message and getting the reply; lower means a more responsive connection. Jitter is the average difference between consecutive pings; high jitter makes calls and games stutter. This test pings 6 times and reports the median of the last 5 (the first one only sets up the connection).

How much data does a test use?

The amount adapts to your speed: faster connections use more, up to about 185 MB down and 42 MB up. Slow connections use far less. Mind your data allowance on mobile networks.

I get an error after testing several times

To protect the server, tests from the same IP address are limited to about 3 per minute. Wait a little and try again.

What does “NRT” or similar mean?

It is the airport code of the city with the Cloudflare location (NRT is Tokyo, KIX is Osaka, HKG is Hong Kong, and so on). You are usually connected to a nearby one, but your provider's route can lead to a location farther away (even in another country). The location used this time is shown as “Test server”.

What these numbers mean

  • This is the speed to the Cloudflare location serving this page that you are connected to. It is usually a nearby one, but the route is decided by your provider and Cloudflare, and it can be farther away. It does not measure the maximum speed of your plan (such as “up to 1 Gbps”).
  • Results vary with Wi-Fi signal, your device, other apps using the network, busy hours and the route to the server. Test a few times and compare.
  • One test can transfer up to about 185 MB down and 42 MB up. Mind your data allowance on mobile networks.
