❓ FAQ

What is a common denominator?

To add or subtract fractions with different denominators, both are rewritten over the least common multiple: 3/4 + 1/6 becomes 9/12 + 2/12 = 11/12.

Why multiply by the reciprocal when dividing?

a/b ÷ c/d equals a/b × d/c, because multiplying both sides by d/c turns the divisor into 1.

How do I enter a mixed number?

Put a space between the whole number and the fraction: 1 1/2. Negative: -1 1/2.

Can repeating decimals be converted?

Decimals are converted using the digits you type (0.333 → 333/1000). For exact thirds, enter 1/3 as a fraction.
