Speed, Distance & Time Calculator

Enter any two of speed, distance and time to find the third, with the unit conversions shown step by step and your running pace.

Features

  • Enter any two of speed, distance and time to get the third
  • Mix units: km/h, m/min, m/s, mph, knots; km, m, miles; hours, minutes, seconds or h:mm:ss
  • Shows the answer in other units too (36 km/h = 600 m/min = 10 m/s), and times as "1 h 30 min"
  • Step-by-step working – convert the units, then apply the formula – with the triangle highlighting the formula used
  • Running pace per km and per mile, calculated from any speed or from a distance and finish time
  • Choose the number of decimal places; no floating-point noise like 0.30000000004

Use cases

Travel time

How long to drive 120 km at 80 km/h? 1 h 30 min.

Running pace

5 km in 25:00 is a 5:00 /km pace (8:03 /mi), or 12 km/h.

Math homework

Check speed–distance–time problems and see where the units change.

Unit conversion

60 mph in km/h, m/s and knots at once.

FAQ

What are the speed, distance and time formulas?

distance = speed × time, speed = distance ÷ time, time = distance ÷ speed. The triangle puts D on top and S and T below: cover the one you want and read off the rest.

How do I calculate pace from a finish time?

Choose Speed as the value to find, enter the distance and the time (for example 5 km and 25:00). The pace card shows 5:00 per km and 8:03 per mile; the speed is 12 km/h.

Does "1:30" mean 1 hour 30 minutes?

In the h:mm:ss field, three parts (1:30:00) are hours:minutes:seconds and two parts (1:30) are minutes:seconds, the way race times are written. A plain number is read as minutes.

Why do units need to match?

With km/h you work in kilometres and hours; with m/s, metres and seconds. 30 minutes is 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5 hours. The working shows each conversion.

Which mile and knot are used?

The international mile (1 mi = 1.609344 km) and the knot (1 nautical mile per hour = 1.852 km/h).

How is rounding handled?

Choose the decimal places, or Auto (up to 3 decimals; 3 significant figures below 1). Rounded values are marked with ≈. Hours-minutes-seconds are rounded to the nearest second.

Working

    Speed–distance–time triangle

    distance = speed × time

Cover the one you want and the rest is the formula: one above the other means ÷, side by side means ×.
