Battery Size Chart

Search by designation, alternative name or use, and see what is the same size and voltage.

✨ What you can do

  • Search by designation, alternative name or use - AG13 and A76 both find LR44
  • See dimensions (diameter x height) and nominal voltage for every entry
  • Get the cells that are the same size and voltage, as swap candidates
  • Learn to read designations like CR2032, where the digits are the dimensions

🪄 Good for

Replacing a battery you cannot identify

Type whatever is printed on the old cell and get its size and the alternatives.

Choosing a watch battery

Compare the LR and SR versions of the same size before buying.

Checking what is in the drawer

Match the dimensions of a spare cell against what the device asks for.

Hearing aid colour codes

Look up PR41 (brown), PR48 (orange), PR70 (yellow) and PR44 (blue) by their tab colour.

❓ FAQ

Can I use LR44 in place of SR44?

They are the same size (11.6 x 5.4mm) so it will fit, but they behave differently. The alkaline LR44 starts at 1.5V and drifts down; the silver-oxide SR44 holds 1.55V almost to the end. Watches and light meters usually specify SR for that reason. For a toy or a calculator, LR is fine.

Can CR2025 replace CR2032?

Both are 20mm across; the difference is 3.2mm versus 2.5mm thick. The thinner cell may sit loosely and holds less energy. If the device specifies CR2032, use CR2032.

Can NiMH rechargeables replace disposable cells?

They are the same size but nominally 1.2V rather than 1.5V. Most devices cope, but anything that judges remaining charge from voltage may report empty early. Follow the manufacturer if a device says not to use rechargeables.

Are AA and 'single-3' the same?

Yes. Japan's 'tan-san' size, the IEC's LR6 (alkaline) or R6 (zinc-carbon), and the ANSI 'AA' all describe the same 14.5 x 50.5mm cell.

What happens when I peel the tab off a hearing aid battery?

Zinc-air cells react with oxygen from the air, so peeling the tab starts the discharge. Leave it on until you are ready to use the battery, and give it about a minute after peeling for the voltage to settle.

How the designations work

  • The first letter is the chemistry: L alkaline, S silver oxide, C lithium manganese dioxide, B lithium carbon monofluoride, P zinc-air, H NiMH, F lithium iron.
  • The R means round. The 9V block 6LR61 is literally six LR61 cells in series.
  • A four-digit number such as CR2032 is the size itself: 20mm across, 3.2mm thick. CR2016 is the same diameter at half the thickness.
  • The numbers in LR44 and SR44 are IEC catalogue numbers, not dimensions - nearby numbers are not similar sizes.
